Ultra high voltage DC lines
Released:2021-08-10

The ± 1100kV Changji Guquan HVDC UHV line project is a national strategic key project of "power transmission from the west to the east". It is an UHV transmission project with the highest voltage level, the largest transmission capacity, the longest transmission distance, and the most advanced technology in the world at present. It is of great and far-reaching significance to promote the development of UHV power grid and the global energy Internet. The starting point of the line is located at Wucaiwan Converter Station in Zhundong, Xinjiang, and the ending point is Anhui Wannan Converter Station. It passes through six provinces (regions) in Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Henan, and Anhui, with a total length of about 3319 kilometers. After the project is put into operation, it will effectively ensure the power supply in the Yangtze River Delta region, which is of great significance for optimizing resource allocations, preventing and controlling air pollution, and driving economic growth in the central and western regions.

The ± 1100kV Jiquan Line has a long and large span, and the terrain of the transmission corridor is complex and variable, posing great challenges to the safe operation of the line. In October 2020, our company's distributed fault diagnosis system for transmission lines was applied to the ± 1100kV Jiquan Line. The system can quickly determine the fault zone, clarify operation and maintenance responsibilities, accurately locate the fault point, assist in guiding rapid emergency repairs, effectively shorten the power outage time due to line faults, reduce the loss of transmission capacity caused by power outages, and provide reliable guarantees for the rapid recovery of power supply after line faults.

The ± 800kV Binjin ultra-high voltage direct current transmission line project starts from Xiluodu, the second largest hydropower station in China, and ends at Jinhua converter station in Zhejiang. It passes through five provincial cities including Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang, with a total length of 1670.8 kilometers. Since the operation of the Binjin Line ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project, it has vigorously promoted the large-scale development of clean hydropower in the southwest, effectively promoted the transformation of resource advantages in the western region into economic advantages, further improved the unique position of Sichuan power grid in the national clean energy supply pattern, and has important social and economic benefits for the economic and social electricity demand in the eastern region.

The ± 800kV Binjin Line has a long transmission line, high towers, and complex corridor terrain, which poses a significant risk of fault tripping. In March 2016, our company's distributed fault diagnosis system for transmission lines was installed and applied. The system strengthened the targeted fault inspection of the line, improved the efficiency of fault inspection, and provided reliable guarantees for the rapid restoration of power supply after line faults.
